A story about Elegance.
How to talk about Elegance?
It's an aspiration,
It’s also a classic: a favourite black and white movie, a leather jacket that only gets softer with age, a chic matching set made from precious Italian fabric.
Yves Saint Laurent said: « Sans élégance de cœur, il n'y a pas d'élégance. » It means: « Without elegance of the heart, there isn't any elegance. »
For this story, my childhood friend Vanessa and I photographed Haleh at Vanessa’s home. Our vision was really clear. The three of us wanted to represent a classic look of femininity: a crisp white shirt, a Chanel lipstick, a statement jewellery piece. The stunning interior Vanessa has designed for her dream house undeniably inspired a certain aesthetic for this story, but the natural grace and generosity of Haley reminded us, much like Yves Saint Laurent, that Elegance comes first from the heart…
L: How do you connect with yourself?
H: Connecting with myself is an important part of my lifestyle. I do meditation practices and breathing exercises... I like to spend a quiet evening on my own with a glass of wine and cook a gourmet meal.
L: Why is lingerie important to you?
H: Lingerie is a very important piece of my clothing. I think lingerie defines a woman’s femininity. I believe it’s an act of self love and self expression. Something that is reserved for a select few to see. A secret hideaway that connects you with yourself.
L: What's your definition of Elegance?
H: Elegance to me is beauty and grace. But more than a just way to present yourselves, Elegance is being respectful to yourself and to others. It's something that can be taught and passed from generation to generation. My grandmother taught my mother, who taught me...
Thank you Haley, and thank you Vanessa for hosting us in your beautiful home. 💜
